By Mike McPhate

More than 200,000 customers remained without power across the Washington area Monday morning. The region's three major power companies each display updated outage numbers at their Web sites.

See current totals at Pepco, Dominion and BG&E.

Customers can reach the utility companies at the following phone numbers.

Pepco: 877-737-2662
Dominion: 866-366-4357
BG&E: 877-778-2222

While I am always sypathetic when PEPCO must clean up after a big storm, I am unsypathetic about their foibles.

Since yesterday, I have tried to call the emergency number that PEPCO lists on its Web site to report downed wires and life-threatening emergencies: 202-872-3432. The number is constantly busy. How hard is it to pay your phone bill or to update your Web site to be current on such critical information?

sedelmann, I'm sure Pepco has paid their phone bill. Thousands of people are calling them at the same time as you-- their system is no doubt overloaded. Should they improve their system to handle more calls? Yes.
