Feb. 14 for lovers & haters: D.C.'s blogs
Good afternoon. So how bad will it be? The federal government has already granted its workers unscheduled leave in advance of the storm that's expected to land late tonight and into tomorrow morning. But the current forecasts from The Capital Weather Gang don't seem to predict that there will be much snow from this system. Perhaps a case of better safe than sorry.
From Vox Populi: Does the first letter of your last name have an impact on how quickly you respond to certain buying opportunities as an adult? In an article in the Journal of Consumer Research, a Georgetown University professor along with a researcher from Belmont University say that in experiments, those with last names toward the end of the alphabet were more likely to respond quickly to limited buying opportunities. They hypothesize that people may have been "trained" as children -- made to stand in lines that were formed alphabetically -- and are compensating for often being at the end of a line.

In case you’re looking for the perfect place to stake your sweetie, Dining in D.C. offers this roundup of Valentine’s Day menus and special offers at area restaurants. If you prefer an anti-Valentine’s Day feast, she’s got a roundup of those, too.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and stay safe tonight and tomorrow morning if you're planning on driving, walking or taking public transportation in to your workplace. Barring a major snow emergency/Internet outage, I'll be back tomorrow with more great posts from the D.C. area blogosphere.
