Man is found fatally shot in D.C.

By Washington Post editors

Update: 11:30 p.m.

A man was found fatally shot in Southeast Washington early Monday, and later an armored-truck guard and a female teenager were shot and wounded in separate incidents.

The body of the man who had been shot was found about 4 a.m., police said, in the 3500 block of Croffut Place SE.

It was not clear whether the man had been shot where he was found. A woman living on the street said her neighbors thought that the man had been left on Croffut Place after being shot elsewhere. Much of the 3500 block of Croffut is occupied by a grassy area with no houses. People living nearby said they had heard no gunshots.

The armored-truck guard was shot in midafternoon outside a fast-food restaurant at Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. avenues SE.

Police said the incident might have involved a robbery attempt. A spokesman said the assailant apparently fled without any money.

A spokesman for the D.C. fire and emergency medical services department said the guard's partner drove him to a hospital in their armored vehicle.

Early reports indicated that the guard was shot in the face or head, but his condition could not be learned Monday night.

In the other shooting incident, a female described as a juvenile was shot and wounded Monday night at 56th Place and East Capitol Street.

She was reported to be seriously wounded but remained conscious, said Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman.

NOTE: Earlier post below incorrectly said this incident occurred "near RFK Stadium."

D.C. police are investigating a fatal shooting near RFK Stadium early Monday morning, WTOP reports.

A man was found fatally shot about 4:30 a.m. near Minnesota Avenue and Crofutt Place in Southeast Washington.

Last time I checked Minnesota Av was on the other side of the Anacostia river from RFK. I guess every crime that happens in Anacostia is now going to be reported as being "near" Nationals Park?

I agree with johnqpublic1. Minnesota Avenue is not near RFK stadium. Another Metro reporter who hasn't lived in DC long enough to know the streets.

haha, was going to comment with the same thing. minnesota avenue is on the other side of the river, it is only "near" rfk stadium on the map. its a totally separate neighborhood based on the geographical divide of the river.

johnqpublic1: Ummm....The Nationals no longer play in RFK. And yes, the reporters who write their articles are dumb and assume a certain landmark is near a certain address. As far as the man found dead on Minnesota and Croffut, he was most certainly dumped there. He showed signs of being physically assaulted before he was shot in the chest at close range. He was an Asian, which leads me to believe, and I hate to stereotype, but I believe he was a Chinese food delivery person who might have been ambushed during a delivery, kidnapped in his car, robbed and assaulted, and eventually shot and dumped where he was found. Of course, this is all an assumption of mine, and it is still under investigation.
