Harry Thomas gets support of gay Dems
Gay Democrats have rewarded D.C. Council member Harry Thomas (D-Ward 5) for his vote last year in favor of the city's same-sex marriage law with an endorsement for his reelection, D.C. Wire reports.
The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club announced its support for Thomas at a meeting Monday night.
Thomas was under intense pressure from ministers and same-sex marriage opponents in Northeast to oppose the measure. But he supported the bill, saying he would not stand for the "disenfranchisement of any individual in the District."
The club also endorsed council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), who is openly gay, in his campaign.
