Help DCPS get ready for opening day

By Washington Post editors

Serve D.C. and D.C. Public Schools are sponsoring DCPS Beautification Day 2010, on Saturday.

Since 2005, members of the community have been invited to help spruce up D.C. public school campuses in preparation for the first day of school. Classes begin Monday.

Volunteers can help with landscaping, picking up trash, light painting, flower planting and myriad other tasks. Officials say the 2009 event attracted more than 2,000 volunteers. Donations of school supplies also will be accepted.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the event as well as an online registration form.

For more information on DCPS Beautification Day 2010, please e-mail Monique Waters at Monique.Waters@dc.gov or (202) 724-2229.
