Marion Barry's car stolen -- and recovered

By Clarence Williams

D.C. Council member Marion Barry's car was stolen this weekend but was recovered by city police on Tuesday, officials said.

Barry's silver 2002 Jaguar was taken Saturday morning near the Patricia R. Harris education center in the 4600 block of Livingston Road SE sometime between 10:45 and 11:15 a.m., police said. An authority said that the keys had been left in the ignition.

Officers recovered the vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the 4000 block of 3rd Street SE, said Cmdr. Joel Maupin, head of the 7th District. And Barry has his car back.

No arrests have been made in the case, Maupin said.

Isn't he doing a reality show? The whole thing should be on video tape.

Oh wait, you don't thing he arranged for 'friends' to steal the car so he could claim insurance do you? Nahhhhh...even Marion wouldn't sink that low... I think.....

Keys in the ignition?

No one should make it that easy for a young person to begin a life of crime.

Marion wasn't too upset. He's very familiar with grand larceny and other indiscretions that politicians get a pass on.

Was his crack pipe recovered?

Posted by: priveye | December 16, 2010 4:34 AM | Report abuse

Left the keys in the ignition? I bet he was just leaving it as back payment to his crack dealer. Getting caught up on what he owes.
He was still short after paying the money from the failed turkey give away.

Aight, the Crack jokes are tired, but is there ever a dull moment with this man?

The guy that stole the car light want to wash his hands really, really well.

How ridiculous. The man that has been involved in so many shady deals over the years from drug addiction to shady political dealings, now this? Come on! Noone just leaves the keys to a car like that in a neighborhood like that! Almost every stolen car recovery which the AUSA calls key cases (car stolen with keys) are never prosecuted because the circumstances of the theft are always suspicious!

Judging fromt he ignorant comments made, I am pretty sure that none of you are residents of DC, either now or during Barry's tenure here in dc. He, himself, personally did so much for the youth of the district, of ALL races. So instead of being ungrateful, you should thank him for providing jobs for your teenagers over the years he was in office.

I know I do.

If this old fool actually worked hard to get his car, he wouldn't have been so careless as to leave the keys in it.

Real life by Marion Crack-Berry!...you just can't make this stuff up!

Posted by: 10bestfan | December 16, 2010 9:14 AM | Report abuse

One possible reason for the keys being in the car is that the Crackhead sent one of his boys with some case to make a purchase....and the guy didn't come back. I'm sure the purchase was only a Christmas gift.

Funny how some people have a NOSE for the spot light.

Barry is an idiot. Leaving the keys in the car. What a stooge.

Man, I hope the check for the amount he was short for his turkey giveaway wasn't in the car!

priveye & others, Why, man? Those days are long ago. Just let go. Despite his personal issues, Marion Barry's terms as mayor of DC did the city a lot of good. If you're going to hold onto the past, hold onto ALL of it.

Darn shame. When I saw the headline I thought it might be payback for some shady deal. The facts suggest this was true and other commenters thought the same.

The crackhead raped the city. It's funny how some people aren't smart enough to know and they still make excuses for him.

ahs78,
"Despite his personal issues, Marion Barry's terms as mayor of DC did the city a lot of good."
The city is an absolute trainwreck in every way. Financially mismanaged, both the police and fire departments constantly dealing with racial descrimination cases, the school system is a joke(not a recent change) and crime is essentally reaching unmanageable levels.
So...please give us some examples of the positive things he accomplished.

Don't blame the moron Barry. Blame the idiotic black racists that continually re-elect and defend him.

DC is a joke. Robberies/Breakins result in no or little jail time.

Yeah, Barry has brought progress to the Wash DC. Schools are a joke and unemployment among blacks is at 18%.

People who vote for barry are failures in life.

He probably stole it to begin with. I doubt too many of his "constituents" even care they're on the hook for a Jaguar actually. After all, he did sooooo much good for the city, or what's left of it.....

I'm a resident of DC. I was a resident of DC back when Barry was mayor. He did a huge amount of damage to the city, and the progress we've made over the last decade has only begun to repair that damage. Barry "helped" the city by giving city jobs to the incompetent and lazy, which helped those people, but hurt everyone else in the city.

Low-life life-criminal Barry would make thousands of people happy if he succumbed to death.

I'll bet the theft of his ride made Barry CRACK up!
