Beck/Palin rally permit approved

The National Park Service said Thursday that it has approved the permit for the Aug. 28 Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin rally at the Lincoln Memorial.

Park Service spokesman Bill Line said the permit indicates that organizers expect 300,000 people to attend. Line said it is a "fixed rally" without a march. The rally will go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The park service is processing a permit request for a counter demonstration and rally by the Rev. Al Sharpton on the same day along Independence Avenue, south of the memorial. Line said the Sharpton rally organizers list 3,000 expected attendees on their permit request.

Let's start by agreeing that if Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin have been given a permit to hold a rally at the Lincoln Memorial, they have a right to do so. However, because both have shown through their words or actions that they believe that states have the right to secede from the union, their decision to hold their rally at this particular location is offensive to the memory of Abraham Lincoln and, by extension, to the American people.

Beck and Palin have made it very clear in recent days that they believe there there are occasions when public sentiment must carry more weight than one's rights. Given this, I am sure Beck and Palin won't mind moving the rally to a more appropriate location. I suggest that it be moved to Fort Sumter, the site of the first battle of the Civil War. Since Beck and Palin are devoted to the cause of dividing Americans, this would be an ideal location.

It was Democrat led Southrners, firing upon Republcan led American Troops, sponsored, and supported by Republicans, at Ft. Sumpter.
You do know, don't you, Exco, that the Republican Party was formed in Ripon WI. in 1857, for the express purpose of abolishing Black Slavery in America?

Glenn Beck is doing what elected officals have failed to do. Listen to the American people. The whole concept of restoring honor is a good one. I don't see much homor from my own Roman Catholic Church. The Church leaders are the political leaders have had, one chance after another to do "the right thing." But through aragnace have avoided truth. This Mormon dude "Beck" puts many people in my own Church to shame! I support him, and Sarah Palin. Whats so wrong with limited govenment? The Tea Party movement is about personal freedom, personal responceability, and limited govenment.
Beck is a hero, he will be remembered for doing good. Beck and Brietbart good men.

First of all, it's Ft. Sumter. Not Sumpter. Second, you clearly have zero knowledge of the political parties if you're trying to equate 19th century Republicans and Democrats to their modern counterparts. The only difference between a modern Republican and a Civil War era Democrat is the name of the party. Same with modern Democrats and Civil War era Republicans. If you need more proof, look at the Republican platform when the Democrats started campaigning for civil rights under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson.

Today I received in the mail a Republican fund raising solicitation from Sarah Palin. It was sent by the RNC and the return mailer for contributions was to the RNC in Wash DC. I guess they are trying to tap into her followers for money but seemed like a measure of their desperation that they would embrace such a divisive figure, especially in light of her recent support for Dr. Laura.

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin should postpone the rally not because they do not have the right to do it but in recognition of the sensitivity attached to the date. Kind of like he wants Muslims not to build a mosque near ground zero for the same reason.

Of course it will never happen: consistency is not their forte.

to choose the date and place of the "I Have A Dream Speech" is a slap to all Americans who worked for decades to get Civil Rights for ALL Americans, what could I compare this to in todays society and issues that Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin can relate to.

Oh yes Park 51 New York City just because they can legally do it, doesn't mean that it should be done, what about being "sensitive" to all of the real Americans that will be offended by the rally at the Lincoln Memorial. Where is the compassion and the care for these people?

I know it seems hypocritical that they can demand care and compassion from an entire religion the Muslim Faith while they go blindly like a bull in a China Shop thru America as long as they get to do what they "want to" even Sarah Palin endorsing Dr Laura is a new all time low for the air head since it is obvious Dr Laura thought it was wrong for Sarah to go back to work as Governor so soon after giving birth to Trig, and then McCain picking her as the VP candidate with her lack of experience.

Both Glenn and Sarah would have made great midway pitchmen if they had lived back in the late 1800s they could have sold snake oil with the best of them but caring about "America" don't make me laugh with them it's all about the dead presidents and the larger the bills the better.....show them the money

So much like Glenn does daily on his hiiiighly rated TV show, Tell me specifically what Beck has gotten wrong. You may differ slightly from his interpretation of certian facts but you are going to have some difficulty undermining the facts as he uses video, audio and in context quotes almost exclusively.

If you disagree, go to Rev Charlatain's march or ignore Beck's. I expect the ComPost and the MSM to do both...unless, of course ,the New Black Panthers manage to disrupt the gathering and then the media will scream vindication for their portrayals of Tea Partiers as violent, regardless of who initiated the confrontations.

I don't much care about Democrats or Republicans for that matter.

The two Supreme Court appointments will last a lot longer than any poll numbers.

The Health Care Reform Act will last a lot longer than any poll numbers.

The Financial Reform will last a lot longer than any poll numbers.

The last combat troops in Iraq have left [or are in the process of leaving].

The vast majority of GITMO detainees are out of GITMO.

TARP money is getting repaid. GM has been paying back their government loans ahead of schedule and have filed for a public offering before the end of the year.

The stock market is way ahead of what Bush passed on. I've made a ton of money since Obama came into office.

The unemployment benefits were extended.

This is somewhat reminiscent of after Clinton was acquitted in the Senate. ... [You may recall the words of CJ Rehnquist .... "Not guilty on all charges."] one Republican said ... "Clinton wins, he always wins."

Obama is wins; the GOP loses.

The Country has already heard all of Sarah Palin's repertoire of ignorance-based, well-rehearsed, cutesy slurs against anyone who does not agree with her, anything she does not know enough about, things she has absolutely no business forcing herself in the middle of.
There is no need to attend this 'rally'. She won't have anything new or interesting to say.
300,000 PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE MUCH BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN LISTEN TO SARAH PALIN POLLUTE THE NATIONS CAPITOL WITH HER IGNORANCE.

OK, I get it, my theatrical expressions failed to ignite the response that I had intended, as it was my desire to ridicule the right for its hypocritical rantings and encourage rational expressions of outrage at patent falsehoods and intellecual derelictions that seem to spew regularly from Beck and Palin.

My office is in Fairfax City. During the last election cycle, bot Obama and Palin came to GMU for rallies, which were well attended by the supporters of both. The only difference beyond the obvious age/racial charactersitics (younger/mixed versus older and exclusively white) was the behavior of the participants going to and from the events. The Obama crowd parked where they were instructed to go, showed up early, and complied with the reasonable requirements of law enforcement to obey traffic signals/parking zones/traffic cops, while the Palin crowd showed up late, got aggitated at traffic signals (lots of horns) parked everywhere regardless of signs, and would cross the streets en masse against the signals (100 at a time) causing gridlock. It was a zoo.

It appeared to this casual observer that the two camps divided neatly into "those who paid attention in kindegarten, and those who didn't." I will assiduously avoid DC on the 28th, and appreciate the advance warning to get out of town while the gettings good.

The United States is in a pitiful place, maybe if we didn't have so much hate for each other and the difference races of people, we would not be in the financial and jobless sisuation we are in today. The purpose for this rally is this: "pays tribute to America’s service personnel and other upstanding citizens who embody our nation’s founding principles of integrity, truth and honor." If the liberal media finds fault with this , then shame on them! I will be there proudly and I can almost guarantee there will be more than the 300,000 they claim will be there.

I find it obnoxiously hypocritical that people are up in arms about a mosque going up on "sacred ground" when there's a strip club scheduled to open just as close to ground zero. We can't put up a monument of religious tolerance in a country that's supposed to be built on religious tolerance, but a strip club isn't blasphemous at all?

First of all, if you're going to call someone a loser based on their spelling, I'd make sure my own spelling wasn't five times as horrid:

OBVUOSLY - *obviously
Probly - *probably
peaople - *people
Muslin - *Muslim, muslin is a cotton fabric
there love of God - *their love of God
Alla - *Allah
Mohamad – *Mohammed/Muhammed
Pulossi - *Pelosi
Forth grade - *fourth

And second, those founding fathers were dedicated to religious freedom, not suppression of religions that you don't understand and don't agree with. Try operating with a little bit of that tolerance, and try making mature arguments in the future instead of resorting to rambling name-calling.
