Suspicious package closes Fed Ctr SW

By Washington Post editors

U.S. Capitol police are investigating a suspicious package at the entrance to the Federal Center SW Metro station. The package is described as an attache case with wires coming out of it and a cell phone next to it, said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a police spokeswoman.

Authorities closed the station after being called to the scene near 3rd and C streets SW about 4:15 p.m. Police are using a robot to investigate the package, Schneider said.

Several streets are closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, including 3rd Street between C and E streets and D Street between 2nd and 3rd streets, police said.

As of 5:30 pm trains are not stopping at Federal Center S.W. They're elling people to get off at L'Enfant Plaza and take a shuttle bus. Good luck to all of you who are going to have to wait for the shuttle... Take the 5A bus instead.
