D.C. Water boss hits the dance floor

By Washington Post editors

He praised employees for their hard work this season, and then George S. Hawkins, the general manager of DC Water, showed off his dance stylings at the water agency's holiday party. Sometimes words just get in the way, so we offer this video. (HT NBC 4)

Pretty fancy party for a utility. No wonder my water bill is so high.

Right on! A nice speech, and a nice dance. These people have worked hard, and earned some good clean fun. Dancing is a basic human need -- why do we laugh at people for doing it?

Concerns for the proper use of ratepayer dollars is one that we share with customers.

DC Water is happy to report that by using the commissions we earn from the sale of items in vending machines at our various facilities throughout the year (mostly to employees), we were able to finance almost the entire party. We also negotiated a special rate with Ibiza by having the party before the club opened for normal business hours.

As a result, DC Water spent far less in ratepayer dollars than we had in past years when the party took place in our board room.
