Power restored for District customers

Update, 9:15 a.m.: Power has been restored for all but fewer than 300 D.C. customers.

Update, 4:45 a.m.: More than 1,400 customers remained without power in Northeast and Southeast Washington early Tuesday, according to Pepco’s outage map. A company spokesman could not be reached.

Original post, 12:40 a.m.: More than 1,600 households in Northeast and Southeast Washington are without power tonight because of problems with an underground cable, according to a Pepco spokesman.

Bob Hainey said the power went out at about 8 pm, and crews are working to fix a cable located on Linden Place NE, near the H Street district. Crews planned to have power restored at about 1 a.m.

It's still unclear what caused the outage, Hainey said, but it wasn't thought to be weather-related.
