By Erica Johnston

Update, 8:15 p.m.:
C Street SW has been reopened after D.C. police determined that nothing dangerous was inside of a black bag found there earlier Tuesday afternoon.

D.C. police are investigating a suspicious package in Southwest Washington, after an unattended black bag was found outside Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Police were called to 6th and C streets SW about 4:11 p.m. and several streets close to the intersection are closed, authorities said. The scene is near the U.S. Department of Education and a bit farther away from the Air and Space Museum.

No further details were available.
