Jeanne Hamrick, spokeswoman for St. Albans, said D.C. police had identified the weapon as a BB gun. She also said that two St. Albans students, not one as the school had previously reported, were taken into custody. She said they were students at the upper school, which has grades 9 through 12.

Two questioned, schools reopen

The interim head of Sidwell Friends sent out a message to parents on Wednesday to let them know about the lockdown that occurred following a report of someone with a gun on the grounds of the National Cathedral.

Dear Friends,
As you may be aware, the Middle School was briefly placed in lockdown this morning at the request of the United States Secret Service. This decision was based upon reports of an incident near the National Cathedral. While many rumors have been circulating, both the Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police have now confirmed that there never was any threat to the students or employees of Sidwell Friends. The School is no longer in lockdown and the day is proceeding normally.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Stephen Barker
Interim Head of School

Two people are being questioned about the incident.

Teens questioned, St. Albans reopens

Staff writer Paul Duggan, on the grounds of the Cathedral, says police are awaiting a warrant that will allow them to search a Jeep parked in a lot on Cathedral campus grounds, according to police.

The Jeep, a gray Rubicon with tinted windows, has a rifle with a scope in the back seat on the passenger's side next to a white shirt and a yellow tie. Through the tinted windows, it's difficult to identify the rifle.

The lot is marked reserved for St. Albans faculty and staff, though there is no parking permit visible on the Jeep. Other vehicles in the lot have visible hanger permits.

11 a.m.:Two teenaged boys have been taken into police custody after bringing what appeared to be a weapon on the grounds of the National Cathedral School in Northwest, police said. No one has been charged and police said they are not aware of any threats to the school, its staff or its students.

Neighboring St. Albans was place on a lockdown while police searched for a reported gunman.

"About 8 o'clock this morning, a rifle, most probably a BB-gun, was spotted in the car of a St. Albans student. The school went immediately on lockdown," said Paul Piazza, an associate headmaster at the school.

The police responded immediately, he said, and the school went off lockdown around 9:30 after police took the student into custody.

"We’re almost certain it’s a BB gun," Piazza said, from looking on the outside into the locked car. "The police have not yet gone in the car, because they need a search warrant."

Excuse me. Two white students from St. Albans School. Armed with a BB-gun? Did you see the story on TV? They showed the gun in the students car. Police said they were waiting for a warrent to go into the car. A warrent? Are you kidding me! If this had been in Anacostia they would have busted the windows out to get that gun. They showed one of the 18 year old student being led away in handcuffs. His face was block out. He is 18 years old. He is not a juvernile. When they arrest teenagers in Anacostia they don't hide their faces.

I'm sure the students will get off with an apology from the police department for daring to arrest them.

"Men of the Future Stand" is the School Hymn. We expect better from STA students in work, in game, or play.
Stand up and take your punishment as deserved. We did and are the better for it!! You should also!!

@Jimof1913 I don't think you would want your face on television if you happened to be arrested, plus this is DC, not Anacostia.
