Students ready to build robots

By The Associated Press

More than a dozen teams of Washington high school students are getting ready for a nationwide robot-building competition.

The teams of students, engineers and teachers are gathering at McKinley Technology High School on Saturday to get instructions for the FIRST Robotics Competition. The competition, founded in 1989, asks students to work with professional mentors to design and build robots.

The teams will have six weeks to design and build robots to compete at regional competitions in March and April. A championship competition will be held in April in St. Louis.
