Teen jumps from balcony of D.C. school

By Washington Post editors

A D.C. student was injured Friday evening when he jumped from a third-floor balcony at McKinley Technical High School during a homecoming celebration, according to D.C. police.

Just after 6 p.m., police said, the student became uncontrollable and could not be calmed down. Police said the juvenile then ran to a third-floor balcony above the school's atrium and jumped. The student suffered a laceration to his face but was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital, according to a police spokeswoman.

No one else was injured in the incident. D.C. Deputy Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson talked with the student's family on Saturday evening, according to a statement, but school officials had no further comment Monday.

I believe that is it more appropriate to say he fell.

Jenna Johnson:
You did a very trifling, incomplete job in writing this story. Seeing the incident happened on Friday evening, you should have had more information. Had you really researched for your story, you would have had the name of this young man (Keon Blake); you would've had accurate information such as his fall was from a 4th floor atrium; you would've known that his injuries were much more serious than just "lacerations to his head" as you write. According to the 10/18/10 story at myfoxdc.com: "He remains in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center, but has been taken off a ventilator. Janice Blake says he is able to open one eye. He is expected to recover, but has months, if not years of rehab ahead." Throwing together this inadequate piece of trash and considering it informative like you did was pathetic and insulting.

Also, according to the report on the video at myfoxdc.com, Keon "fell face-first onto the marble floor four stories down; he broke virtually every bone in his face; he lost all of his teeth; and shattered the bone in both his thighs." Hmm, Jenna, that sounds a teeny bit more serious than "the student suffered a laceration to his face."

Cool out gitouttahere, dude was smoking Dippers and jumped. Wait for the school video, it will tell the story.

They should put music with it with commentary about drugs. Just say no to dippers.

Gitouttahere, are you doing dippers too??

Scum of the Earth that you are ... it sounds like you are the one dipping, sniffing, coking, dusting, snorting, drinking and shooting up from the cellar of your trailer park home with your broke-down pick-up truck out in your dirt yard filled with trash and garbage where your babies run around with filthy diapers on and no shoes because you cannot get a job ... DUDE!
