Tree lighting ceremonies around D.C.
Tree lighting ceremonies are beginning in the Washington area.
On Friday, the city of Alexandria is having its tree lighting in Market Square. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m., and there will be a community sing-along following the tree lighting.
National Harbor, just outside Washington, is also having its tree lighting ceremony on Friday. The waterfront development is planning fireworks at 8:30 p.m.
President Obama will preside over the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony outside the White House on Dec. 9.

considering the absolute mess that the National Tree lighting ceremony makes of downtown rush hour it seems like it would be a fairly sane thing to do this on the Friday after Thanksgivng also.
