Slain DPW employee identified

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said he Wednesday that he is calling the wife of slain DPW worker Larry Hutchins to express his condolences Wednesday. Fenty said the shooting "didn't look to be random" and "didn't look to be a drive-by."

Veteran District Public Works employee Larry Hutchins, 51, of Suitland, was killed Wednesday in an early morning shooting that left another DPW employee wounded and hospitalized, according to District police.

A man who was wearing "some sort of a uniform" may have been involved in the shooting but had not yet been located, said police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump.

The shooting occurred at about 6:15 a.m. at a DPW lot at 1241 W. Street NE. City personnel records show Hutchins had been a sanitation worker for the city since 1986.

1 dead, 1 wounded after DPW shooting

One man is dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday at a lot for the District's Department of Public Works at 1241 W. Street, NE, said Officer Istmania Bonilla, a police spokeswoman.

Police remain on the scene and additional information was not immediately available.

Two D.C. DPW workers shot

Two D.C. Department of Public Works employees were shot Wednesday morning in northeast Washington, NBC 4 reports.

The shooting occurred about 6:15 a.m. in a lot in the 1200 block of W Street. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the incident appeared to be a workplace-related shooting.

The two people shot were taken to a hospital. One of those injured is said to be in grave condition.

No information has been released about a suspect.
