Woman killed in D.C. tunnel crash

By Martin Weil

A woman was killed early Tuesday in a car crash in the 3rd Street Tunnel, D.C. police said.

The crash occurred within a few minutes of midnight in the southbound lanes of the tunnel, according to police.

The site of the crash was south of the D Street NW ramp, the police said.

At least two vehicles were involved in the crash, police said. Initial reports indicated that as many as a half dozen had crashed.

Police said they expected the southbound lanes to be closed to traffic for some time.
