Md. teacher nominated for national award

Frederick County chemistry teacher Michelle Shearer was named one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year, the Frederick News-Post reports.

Shearer, who teaches at Urbana High School, will compete with teachers from Florida, Illinois and Montana for the top honor given by the Council of Chief State School Officers. She already was selected as Maryland Teacher of the Year.
