By Washington Post Editors

Virginia State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash near Springfield that left an elderly man seriously injured.

Police say two cars collided on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning. One of the drivers, a 73-year-old Franklin man was standing beside his car when he was hit by another passing vehicle about 4:15 a.m.

Investigators say the large Mercedes sedan or small SUV failed to stop. They're asking any witnesses to provide information.

The man was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries.
