Exam for Va. man charged in mom's death
An 18-year-old Spotsylvania County man charged with killing his mother will undergo a competency exam.
The Free Lance-Star reports that Spotsylvania Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge Patricia Kelly ordered the exam Monday for Matthew Charles Robertson.
Robertson is charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding. He is accused of fatally stabbing his mother, 61-year-old Susan A. Robertson, on Saturday at the family’s home in the Salem Fields subdivision. He also is accused of hitting his father, Neal Robertson.
Robertson told the judge that he didn’t want a lawyer. Kelly said she would appoint a lawyer, at least for the time being.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 6, 2011.
