Fire causes temporary evacuation of school

By Washington Post editors

Authorities say a southeast D.C. charter school was evacuated briefly Tuesday during a small fire on the roof, the Associated Press reported.

D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says crews renovating the KIPP DC school were handling a large air conditioning unit on the roof when a fire broke out. Students were evacuated while firefighters worked on the building.

Students were allowed back into the building after the fire was extinguished. No one was injured.
