Fire in manhole on Pennsylvania Ave. NW

An apparent electrical fire broke out in a manhole in the heart of downtown Washington on Friday evening, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 7:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, making it visible to tourists coming from the Mall as well as homebound commuters.
The D.C. fire department reported that the fire was quickly placed under control.
