Flyover exercise planned for area this week
The North American Aerospace Defense Command is planning exercise flights over the Washington area this week.
NORAD says two flights will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday in the early morning hours. The first flights will take place between midnight and 2 a.m., and the second flights will come between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
One additional flight will be conducted after midnight on Thursday. The flights involve Civil Air Patrol aircraft and Coast Guard helicopters. If the weather is bad, the exercise will be postponed a day.
NORAD conducts these flight exercises as part of its response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
