Judge rules against same-sex marriage opponents
Same-sex couples could begin marrying in the District in about two weeks after a Superior Court judge Friday denied a request to overturn a D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics ruling that said residents do not get to vote on the matter.
In December, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) signed into law a council bill to legalize same-sex marriages. Friday's decision is the third by the courts to favor city officials.
The bill is currently on Capitol Hill, undergoing a 30-day review period.
