Silence can yield $$: 5 great blogs

Good afternoon. Hope you remembered that umbrella because a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until this evening.

After a brief hiatus, looks like our D.C. area bloggers are back online. They've got all kind of fun posts today, including tips on planting a wildlife friendly garden (butterflies not deer) as well as the scoop on a mini blog war in a Virginia neighborhood.

While there's endless space on the Internet, ARLnow reports there might not be enough room in one Virginia neighborhood for more than one blogger. Two blogs are battling it out for supremacy in Shirlington -- at least via their mastheads. The Shirlington Village Blog bills itself as the original, while Shirlington Village Blogspot says it's a "modern and better blog."

Make mine a triple shot. Ready Set DC reports that D.C. is the 11th most caffeinated city in the U.S.

Jon at the Hill is Home offers some guidelines for planting gardens to attract the right kind of wildlife.

Sometimes keeping your mouth shut can pay off – literally. The Sweating the Big Stuff blog explains.

Remember the joy of a new box of crayons? Susie, from Susie’s Budget and Policy Corner is hoping to share that with kids heading back to school. She's looking for tips on groups hosting back-to-school supply drives. Let her know what you hear.

That's it for today. Thanks for reading, stay dry and have a great day.
