Vitamin D, bacon coffee? D.C.'s blogs

Good afternoon. A nice day like this and I've got food and the outdoors on the brain. A good combination seeing as you can walk off that meal while soaking up some Vitamin D. I'll be upfront though: Just as I had reservations about yesterday's pie shake post (not the post, but the concept itself) -- I have to admit I have similar misgivings about today's bacon coffee entry.
Here’s your chance to visit the headquarters (i.e. home) of one of our favorite blogs. The folks behind Natural Capital are opening up their home as part of the Takoma Park Green Homes and Garden tour. See their solar panels, their native/edible plant garden and most importantly, meet folks who make exploring nature fun.
Some bacon in your coffee? The Best Bites blog tells you where you can go to get this special treat and other unusual liquid delights.
Get out and soak up some Vitamin D this weekend. JDLand has the details on several walking/biking tours happening around the city on Sunday.
Congratulations to Bitten Word bloggers, Clayton and Zach, who recently tied the knot here in D.C. Their fabulous food blog is one of my favorites – so much so that I’ll forgive them for having their wedding announcement in the New York Times. Best wishes to you both!
Susie, from Susie’s Budget and Policy Corner, urges you to share your vision of D.C. as “One City.” The theme was part of D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray’s mayoral campaign and he has now launched a website where you can share your thoughts or even volunteer.
Your Tuesday etiquette tip from Johnna Knows Good Food. When you go to a party or reception, don’t be tacky. Leave the “To Go” box at home. I've seen this happen and it makes me cringe. The only exception I can think of is if the host/hostess urges you to take the leftovers.
That's it for now. Thanks much for reading. If there's a great D.C.-area blog out there that you think you're missing (or if you're a blogger celebrating a blogiversary) email me and let me know at aratanil@washpost.com. You can also follow me on Twitter (though I understand it's having *issues* today.)
