Gas station gourmet: D.C. area blogs

By Lori Aratani
Washington Post editors

Good afternoon. Alas, there will probably be no White Christmas here in D.C. after all -- but there is a chance that we could get some snow Sunday. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. The Capital Weather Gang says it's still too early to know. We've got some holiday-themed posts from the D.C. area blogosphere today as well as a surprising one about gourmet sandwiches found at a … gas station. Read on.

Endless Simmer presents their top 10 holiday song food shout-outs. And bonus: They offer recipes for each.

From our Frugal Friends in Northern Virginia comes a list of free (and pay) holiday Christmas light displays around the D.C. area.

From the need-to-know files – Borderstan has the schedule of D.C. trash pick-up and traffic enforcement through the holidays.

New Columbia Heights offers this handy guide to the Fallout Shelters of D.C. and notes that a new Web site recently popped up to chronicle the history of D.C. shelters.

U Street Girl sings the praises of sandwiches found at a gas station.Yes, she had her doubts, but after trying one, she’s a fan.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful holiday. And a special thanks to all the bloggers out there who make this part of my job so much fun. I've learned so much from you all this year. This will be my last roundup of 2010. I'll be taking some time off to see family for the holidays. But don't worry -- you'll still be able to get your blog fix. My colleague Elizabeth Flock will be filling in while I'm away.
