Yes, that is the sound of my stomach rumbling, which may explain the food-centric nature of today's posts from the D.C. blogosphere. It's not just food -- we have another great end of summer shot from Maryland Daily Photo and another photo from the Brightwoodian that seems to sum up the current state of the D.C. Mayor's race. Read on.

One of the best things about summer? Fresh corn. The Bitten Word has 10 great ideas for using your ears.

Cupcakes are SO 2008. Time for a new food obsession. Eating Around D.C. nominates . . . French Macaroons.

Couldn’t resist this fabulous summer shot from Maryland Daily Photo. Swimming anyone?

Ever consider making your own custom coffee blend? Extraordinary Observations has this guide to roasting your own coffee beans. Hey, Starbucks made it work, why can't you?

Salad days. Piece of cake. We hear these terms all the time – and maybe even use them ourselves. But where did they come from? Food and Think offers this brief history of food idioms.

Another fun Adrian Fenty vs. Vincent Gray campaign photo via the Brightwoodian. Remember: primary day is Sept. 14.

Rock star. And while we don't usually like to toot our own horn, we cannot resist showcasing this photo from DCist of Ella, the daughter of Post reporter Nikita Stewart, playing in the Third Annual Girls Rock! concert at the 9:30 Club. You can say you knew her when . . .

That's it for today. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend. I'll be back on Monday with most great posts from the D.C.-area blogosphere. Meantime, if you know of a great blog I need to add to my blogroll, message me at aratanil@washpost.com. (And don't be shy, you can nominate your own blog!)
