Fruitcake vs. cupcake: D.C.'s blogs

Good afternoon. Judging from my commute this morning, folks are beginning to leave town for the holidays. By Thursday, I'll be able to cruise into the office with time to grab coffee. The upside of a late holiday departure. The chatter in the D.C. area blogosphere today? Metro's random bag checks and … fruitcake. Now I wonder: if Metro officials find fruitcake in your bag during a random screening, is that considered a security threat?

Unsuck DC Metro has an interview with a security expert about the wisdom of Metro’s random bag screenings, which began today at two stations in Maryland and Virginia.

Chapping, chafing, redness. DC Ladies offers this guide to winter skin care (good for men, too).

Love these coffee-themed bike racks that have popped up in Dupont. Thank you to Prince of Petworth.

We Love D.C. has a message for anyone pondering a new business venture involving cupcakes. Enough. Done. No more.

It wouldn’t be the holidays without a primer on the much-maligned fruitcake. Food & Think obliges. Confession: I actually like fruitcake.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the day. If you're headed out for the holidays, have a safe journey. I'll be back tomorrow with another great selection of posts from the D.C. area blogosphere.
