Man caught smuggling heroin at BWI
Customs and Border Protection officers at Baltimore-Washington International Airport arrested a 26-year-old Balitimore resident Tuesday after he attempted to smuggle nearly seven pounds of heroin into the U.S. in the false bottom of a suitcase.
Suleiman Zakaria had just returned from Ghana shortly after 6 p.m. when a CBP officer referred him for a secondary examination. During that examination, CBP officers discovered about six pounds, 13 ounces of heroin with a street value of as much as $430,000, allegedly hidden in a false bottom of a suitcase. CBP officers also seized $5,980 Zakaria was carrying.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Zakaria into custody.
