Man forced way into Md. apartment

By Terri Rupar

A man forced his way into an 11-year-old girl’s apartment in Silver Spring Friday but fled after a 16-year-old male cousin came to her aid, Montgomery County police said Saturday.

They said that as the girl entered the lobby of her apartment house in the downtown section of Silver Spring Friday afternoon, she spotted a man who had been in the lobby when she had left for school in the morning.

As she entered her apartment, he apparently followed her and forced his way in when she tried to close the door, the police said.

Police said the girl began to scream and when her cousin came into the room, the intruder fled. The girl called police and the cousin followed the suspect, police said. When officers arrived, a man was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, police said.

They said Surafeling Melese, 31, who had no known address, was charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, second-degree assault, burglary, stalking and trespassing.

Silver Spring needs to incorporate as a town and quit giving money to the Montgomery County Council. We need a mayor, council and police force of our own.
