Man hurt in apartment fire in NW

A 26-year-old man was severely injured Sunday in a fire in a downtown Washington apartment buildings, the D.C. fire department said.

The 1 p.m. fire was reported in the building at 1500 Massachusetts Ave. NW, one of the larger apartment houses in the city. The fire was confined to a first-floor apartment, officials said.

The injured man, who was burned on his hands and feet, was taken to the Washington Hospital Center. No cause was immediately known for the blaze.

The fire was under investigation Saturday evening, a D.C. fire department official said.
