onesugar, I think you misread the story. The victim was shot by a would-be robber. Hopefully he survives the shooting and can identify his attacker.

To: streak, Thank you for the correction, I did misread the article, even to identify the attacker he would get off, probation or something like a slap on the waist,I truly wish that it had been the ROBBER that got shot, Does the Poll still go? Shot people that steal from those that :Work Hard for The Money" I HAVE NO MERCY for them.I mean shot and try not to hurt them do HARM where they wil not even think about robbing anyone else EVER, the court's is NOT helping US, we have to Protect ourselves and other's that are trying their Best to do the right thing and then come's alone some THIEF.I may sound MAD, YES I am , tired of the crime and nothing is being done, the court's are protecting the people that commit crime's with all of these loop hole's, Just shot the thieve's and other people that commit crime, and see what loop hole's we get for ptotecting ourselve's.Shoot anhd Shoot TO K I L L !!!!

There are no guns allowed in DC. How did this happen????

jhaas, there are not guns allowed in DC unless you are a thug. Actually you can now own a handgun if you pay $300 in licensing fees, go through a battery of tests, then agree to keep it unloaded and disassembled in your House (where of course it is useless)...

at least its that way until SCOTUS (again) declares DC laws in violation of the Constitution, and this time puts the police department and the council under court supervision for deliberately and maliciously violating the injunctions of the Court...to the gnash of teeth, tearing of hair and renting of garments of WaPo and a host of Dupont Circle libs.

Well, this is preposterous! Surely that thug was aware of the fact that one IS NOT ALLOWED to carry concealed firearms in DC and still be law abiding!

DC had better go on a marketing blitz at the DC jail informing the criminals that it is illegal to carry firearms without a permit; failure to do so will result in additional charges of 'Carrying a pistol w/o a license' tacked onto the crimes of robbery or murder or aggravated assault. They had better inform those criminals that this additional charge could possibly but probably not result in additional time of upto five more years added to their 30 years to life sentence! This will surely scare them into stopping the gun violence; surely the victim should also be fined for possibly looking succesfull and well groomed!

This is what happens when you buy a half million dollar renovated home or condo in a bad neighborhood that is facaded by nice bars and coffee shops. DC is like NY. Except people who now live here think its suppose to be safer just because its a small town compared to other big cities. Dont be fooled into thinking just because the neighborhoods are renovated that crime has been eliminated. You have to protect yourself and watch where you go the same way you would in NY, Chicago or LA. Criminals dont go away just because a bunch of wealthy 20 somethings move in their neighborhoods. Approach DC in the same cautious way you would approach any other big city. Dont let the cute newly renovated homes and condos fool you. DC has criminals just like every other place. Dont be an easy target.
