Dolphin dies at National Aquarium
The National Aquarium says Shiloh, a 31-year-old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, has died after a yearlong illness.
Shiloh was euthanized Sunday at the Baltimore aquarium, where she had lived since 1993 and had been treated for the past year for an iron-storage disease and a series of illnesses.
Aquarium spokeswoman Jen Bloomer says Shiloh was the second-oldest dolphin at the aquarium behind Nani, who is 38.
While in Baltimore, Shiloh gave birth to Chesapeake and Maya, who are still at the aquarium, and is the grandmother of 2-year-old Bayley.
Aquarium officials say Shiloh's body has been taken to Johns Hopkins University where pathologists are performing a full post-mortem evaluation.
