Zombies & Virginia creepers: D.C.'s blogs
Happy Friday. What a fabulous day. For those of you lucky enough to have a three-day weekend, the forecast is for sunshine and warm temperatures. The summer of 2010? A distant memory. Because we know you'll want to be outdoors we've got some tips from The Natural Capital for things to look for when you're hiking or even just strolling around the neighborhood. And in the spirit of October, Thayer Avenue offers a sneak peek at the 2010 Silver Spring Zombie Walk T-shirt.

Feeling ambitious? You don’t have to pay $3.50 for a great cupcake – you can – yes, you can – make your own. (And then you can open your own shop.) Thanks to CupcakesOMG! for this post.

Beyond Breadhas a great post about the rooftop garden they hope to build as part of their Northwest Center expansion. The garden will help them reduce runoff into the District’s storm water and sewage systems by soaking up rainfall and will also provide insulation that will cut heating and cooling costs. And here's the added bonus: They hope to grow vegetable to distribute to their clients. It’s a cool project that makes you wonder, Why didn’t someone think of this sooner? Now comes the hard part: paying for it. You can help.
That's it for now. See if you can sneak out early and enjoy the great weather. Maybe a good night for rooftop cocktails? Hmmmmm. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend.
