Immigration raid takes 29 into custody in Maryland

By Washington Post editors

Federal immigration officials took 29 people into custody during several simultaneous raids in Maryland, the Baltimore Sun reports.

The raids took place Thursday morning at two restaurants, several homes and an office in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.

William Winter is special agent in charge at the Baltimore office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He said the raids were carried out “to ensure that employers are held accountable for maintaining a legal work force.”

HOORAY!!!!! At least the Feds are trying to enforce the law, unlike our spineless, gutless governor and state reps. Keep up the good work!!! That's 29 more jobs for the LEGAL residents of MD.

BYE-BYE Amigos, don't let the door hit you in the a-- on the way out!

$5 says they didn't even ship those folks out. I bet you they got em locked up somewhere for violating whatever immigration laws that permitted these raids to begin with and those folks are gonna sit in comfy cells awaiting trial for several months draining taxpayer dollars for their now known illegal residence.

Join us in Annapolis tomorrow: 3/13 when we testify AGAINST BOND funding for CASA and Identity (another illegal alien aid group)YES!! Even with Maryland in the hole- there is a funding bill for CASA and Identity to aid illegal aliens! It's easy to do and we will help you through the process. All you have to do is show up and say you are against these bills. You can park at Navy Stadium for $5 and get a free shuttle to Lawyers Mall. You need to get there about 8:00 am to sign in. Your physical presence is needed to show your opposition to this illegal alien support group! www.helpsavemaryland.com

WHOOPS...CORRECTION!!! The free Annapolis shuttle does not start until 10 am on weekends. (it is unusual to have hearings in the GA on weekends) but the garage and street parking is open- because the usual workers are not there. And, I remember parking for $2.00 at one garage on a Saturday -for the whole day. Parking is much cheaper on weekends. There is free parking on side streets.

The free shuttle starts at 6:30 am on WEEKDAYS only. www.helpsavemaryland.com

Only twenty-nine, what about the other 20 million. We need our jobs back. How about rounding up the ones at the protest that they are planning next week end.

I guess they do this so the ICE employees can justify their salaries as federal employees.

So, they nab 29 - while allowing 290,000 to walk by.

What a farce on an unbelievable scale.

Like any of you people happy that these low skill workers have been arrested would do the low skill, low pay jobs they were removed from.

They would not be so low paid if the illegal aliens were all being shipped back to where they belong.

Posted by: jescpa7 | March 12, 2010 4:57 PM | Report abuse

Good job, ICE!!! I'm proud of you! Can you come over to Delaware and go to Georgetown. There are about 40,000 illegal aliens there. There are about 25,000 up in Elsmere. Can you come and get them?

Don't eat at Hemmingway's Restaurant as you go across the Bay Bridge on Kent Island. They donate to and support CASA.
We must not partronize these supporters of illegal aliens.

What is the argument here? every single alien "BROKE THE LAW!" Our Government, past & present, Republican & Democrat, have allowed the invasion of 20 to 30 million criminals and uneducated peons which is the largest invasion of any Nation, at any time, by any means & in direct violation of Article IV, Section IV of our Constitution.

This refusal to abide by our Constitution or enforce our Immigration Laws should be classified as Treason of the most foul kind, & as grounds for impeachment & trials for Treason!

Not only have they allowed the invasion, they force American tax payers to pay Billions on Billions of dollars to provide Welfare, Prison cells, Educate the invaders numerous children, and free medical care, at the same time the invading horde break numerous laws and massive document fraud, & are destroying our schools, hospitals, communities, culture and standard of living while Robbing, Raping, Killing & Assaulting American Citizens WAKE UP PEOPLE!

As the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform movement keeps getting delayed, ICE raids continue. We need reform. As you can see from this article below, the justification for ICE raids is employer sanctions. But employer sanctions are emblematic of the institutional reacism engrained in our immigration laws. We need to repeal employer sanctions as a part of reform.

This is simply horrible for their kids who are US citizens. Once again we are breaking up families. I just wish that immigration reform would hurry up. And for the rest of you who are whining about not being able to get jobs because of immigrants... you people should go get an education. How long have you been in this country for? Why are you trying to get those low-skilled jobs? As an American, I'm ashamed of people like you who can't improve themselves. This is America! the land of opportunity. You have to actually WORK for what you have. Apply the lesson!

I have an education. I have a masters degree but more and more jobs require one to speak spanish. These people have invaded our country and are trying to force their language and culture on us.
I say only 29 they should be getting 100 to 200 a day. Send them back!!!!!!!!!!

Better yet, by allowing them to work legally they could join unions and the employers would not be able to exploit them.

America says: Ya Basta! Enough! No Mas! No More! Leave my tax dollars alone, go see Rep. Guiterrez (Mexico City's agent in the U.S.) and move in with him and his family. He has presumed that me and mine should welcome all of you and your relatives into my home and support you in the process. I do not. You have abused your stay. You are stealing my hard-earned money. We are the victims, not the illegal immigrants. They're in heaven compared to 3d World countries. Check out their cars.

@alterego--"we" are not breaking up families, the illegal alien made a choice, got caught and was deported. That is a consequence of his or her choice. They didn't arrive here on slave ships, as some Latino propagandists would have you believe, they snuck in knowing the laws of our country. As for low wages? "American Apparel" a clothing manufacturing company in L.A. was audited by ICE and 1200, yes, 1,200 employees were undocumented. They made close to $15, had subsidized lunches and benefits. Add in all the benefits for their citizen children (child care, medical, subsidized school meals) and they end up with more disposable income than a lot of citizens. Don't listen to the voices from the "victim industry" -- we've been oppressed by white guilt once, let's not allow anyone to take us there again.

To charlietuna666 - I posted this in another illegal immigrant comment section. The "CASA" Hemingway's donates to is a good CASA. It is the Court Appointed Special Advocate program. The program screens, trains and supervises volunteers who advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children within the court and social service systems. The volunteers are appointed by judges so the children have someone to advocate for them as their parents are often absent from their lives. Many businesses, service organizations and private citizens donate to this worthy national organization. There are county chapters all over the country. Hemingway's is doing a wonderful thing!!

There are two bills being heard today in the Maryland Legislature. One is to give $500,000 to CASA of Maryland and the other is to give $350,000 to Identity. The Appropriations Committee in the House of Delegates and the Budget and Taxation Committee in the Senate will hear the bills. Help Save Maryland is there testifying AGAINST these bill. Difficult to imagine that even as Maryland is on it's knees financially and tens of thousands of Marylanders can't find jobs, those far left idiots in the MD Legislature have sponsored bills to help the illegals and their enablers. Thank you HSM for being there for the legal, taxpaying Marylander.

Only 29 were arrested? There are at least 50 on my block alone. Am I to understand that the Feds are finally developing a backbone and going after these people who have broken the law? What about the other million that are boldly being employed by American companies with no fear of retribution? State budgets are stretched thin because of illegals taking advantage of taxpayer dollars; schools are pressured into providing Spanish-language curriculums and illegals are driving cars with no knowledge of the English language because they know they can. And what does Congress do? NOTHING. Next step is to force amnesty since that's preferable to sending these people back home. Is anyone listening?

We need REFORM not raids. These type of enforcement only policies have proven time and time again to be very costly, ineffective, and inhumane. Deporting every single undocumented immigrants would take over 30 years and cost billions and billions of dollars. We need a comprehensive solution that upholds both our laws and our values as a nation. We need a solution that moves us forward together.
I am a proud American patriot because I recognize that we are all descendants of immigrants and this great nation is built by the labor of immigrants. Let's come to our senses and stop this hateful rhetoric.

Fantastic- a family of five (mama & four kids)in the U.S. illegally will be sent to your house. You will be responsible for paying for their food/housing/education and medical care. What time would you prefer for them to arrive?

Beef up your arguments against immigrants a bit. It all a bunch of lousy rhetoric with no factual basis. First undocumented immigrants pay their own housing; they have no means of obtaining government housing. They pay taxes just like every other person living in the US and their they have no means of claiming SS money so there are billions of unclaimed SS dollars that go back into the system.
No, reform means just that. A way to effectively deal with our chaotic immigration system and prevent future border crossing and visa overstays without forgetting our values as a nation. And way to treat immigrants with dignity. Amnesty is a cheap cop out for ignorant people who'd rather waste critical time engaging in hateful rhetoric than realistic and humane solutions that are needed urgently.

I cannot believe how many nasty, spiteful people are commenting about this. Maybe we should look at our own flawed agricultural and foreign policies as causes of immigration. Most of the people coming here just want a better life for themselves and their families.

I don't understand how some people in this country can be okay with hard working individuals being arrested. The reasoning behind it is that they are "undocumented workers"...did not Irish, British, German, and many other European immigrants come into this country ILLEGALY in order to work and persue a better life??
I will never agree with hardworking individuals being punished.
