Jury selection in Frostburg State slaying

By Washington Post editors

Jury selection has begun in Cumberland for the first-degree murder trial of a former Frostburg State University student.

Opening statements were expected Tuesday afternoon in the trial of 21-year-old Tyrone Hall of Glen Burnie.

Hall claims self-defense in the April shotgun slaying of 20-year-old Brandon Carroll and the wounding of 21-year-old Ellis Hartridge Jr. of the District. Both victims were on the school basketball team.

Hall claims he fired his 12-gauge shotgun as the men lunged at him at his off-campus apartment during a dispute over a woman.

Court records indicate that Hall had been in a physical altercation earlier that night with Hartridge’s on-again, off-again girlfriend.
