A Brunswick man who threw a stranger's teacup Chihuahua off a bridge, apparently to its death, faces sentencing in Frederick.

Prosecutors are seeking jail time for 35-year-old David Beers at his sentencing Monday.

Beers pleaded guilty in March to felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor theft. The combined maximum penalty is 41/2 years in prison and a $5,500 fine.

The Marine Corps veteran told police he snatched the dog from the driveway of Caisha (KAH'-shah) and Timothy Wantz in a fit of anger last June after they ordered him off their property.

Beers said he had stopped to make a cell phone call, mistaking the quarter-mile, dirt lane for a utility road. He threw the dog into Catoctin Creek on his way home.

How about throwing this moron off a a bridge into a body of water?... I guess the dirt-bag would pollute the water.

I am so sick of these soldiers who commit crimes then use their service as a shield. The Conklin Dairy Farm criminals tried the same thing when caught punching baby cows and hitting mothers with crowbars until their heads were swollen.

Sick of these "soldiers."

Toss him off a brudge before sending him away for the max. His service as a Marine has no bearing in this.

I hope he gets the maximum sentence. Even that is not fitting enough punishment for such a heinous, cowardly, disgusting, horrifying act. Pure evil. People like this have absolutely no place in society and are a danger to anything that happens to cross their path when anyone dares to even look at them the wrong way. It's too bad the 8th Amendment blocks us from having the death penalty for more crimes.

No matter how much time this jerk gets, it won't be enough.

I guess he did not learn a thing from the Michael Vick case. Maybe he thought him being a Marine and not an NFL QB would get him a pass.

The Marines have always taken violent, deranged losers like this POS.

@koolkat_1960... Please do not lump Marines and other service members with people like this. Unless you have served you have no clue as to whether his service has anything to do with his behavior in this matter. You may well be a sadistic bast@rd for all I know about you. Whatever the Marine Corps did to you don't take it out on the rest of my fellow Marines.

to koolkat 1960 - This dirtbag is not representative of the Marine Corps. Unless you have had the honor of wearing the uniform, you really have no basis to form an opinion.

As for Mr. Beers, in lieu of jail, perhaps a more fitting penalty would be cleaning up in the county humane society. Although throwing him off a bridge seems a good alternative.

To skipfrmdc - Semper Fi

AP: "FREDERICK, Md. - A Maryland man who went into a rage and threw a stranger's teacup Chihuahua off a bridge, apparently to its death, has been sentenced to four months in jail.

Thirty-five-year-old David Beers was sentenced Monday in Frederick. The judge suspended a three-year prison term and ordered the unemployed cell tower technician to pay a $1,000 fine, perform 300 hours of community service and make restitution of $318 to Timothy and Caisha (KAH'-shah) Wantz."

Disgusting. They should have just shot him. That's what you get for thinking Maryland is ever going to be tough on criminals.

It's just a dog folks!!! Why not go after people that brutally slaughter cows, chicken and pork. Oh wait, you eat those animals so that justifies killing them. This countries priority is screwed up. He got what he deserved, fine, buy the couple another dog and perform community service. Now leave him alone. He served his country and some of you lame duck cowards have yet to wear a uniform. Michael Vick, jail for fighting dogs. Ben Roth, gets off free for raping girl. Maybe he would have received time if he poked a dog. No means no Ben.
