Md. worker fired after security breach
A Maryland Department of Human Resources employee has been fired for posting the personal information, including Social Security numbers, of almost 3,000 department clients on a Web site.
The state's social service agency announced Friday that the employee, who was not named, no longer works for the state.
Department spokeswoman Nancy Lineman says the employee posted the information in April on a business Web site he created. Lineman says it is not clear why the employee posted the information, but there's no indication that it was used for any purpose.
Lineman says the employee was authorized to access the information but not to use it that way. Department officials learned about the posting this month and had the information taken down.
Lineman says the state attorney general's office has been involved in the investigation.
