MD's governor calls for a health day
Former Baltimore Oriole Billy Ripkin and former Olympic ice skater Kimmie Meissner are urging Marylanders to be more health conscious.
Gov. Martin O’Malley kicked off the state’s first Healthy Maryland Day in Annapolis on Monday with the two prominent Maryland athletes by his side.
The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says about 2.5 million adults in Maryland were overweight or obese in 2007.
O’Malley has designated the day to call attention to the growing need for state residents to get more exercise and eat better.
