By Washington Post editors

A Silver Spring man is facing drunk driving charges after his SUV crashed into a police cruiser driven by a Howard County officer, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Phillip Vu, 49, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired and failure to stop at a steady red light.

Vu is accused of running a red light on Little Patuxent Parkway about 2 a.m. Monday morning and striking the police vehicle driven by Officer Kirk Brown.

Brown was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma, where he was treated and released. Vu was not injured.
