Mother Teresa's rosary, blood in Baltimore
Churches in Baltimore are hosting relics of Mother Teresa: the nun's hair, rosary, sandals and some of her blood.
The items were displayed Wednesday at the Gift of Hope hospice on Ashland Avenue, which is operated by Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. The nun opened the hospice for AIDS patients in East Baltimore in 1992. She died in 1997 and was beatified, a step toward sainthood, by Pope John Paul II in 2003.
The relics are part of a North American tour in honor of the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa's birth. The relics were scheduled to visit St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Our Lady of Pompei Church on Thursday.
They leave the area Friday.

Is it just me, or does the idea of a road show with a dead person's hair and blood seem creepy? Mother Teresa was a wonderful human, who performed many acts of mercy and charity during her life, can't remembering and honoring that that be enough? Hmmm - this reversion to medieval fascination with pieces of the venerated may be why I left the Catholic church.
