No bids for Bethesda Theatre

By Washington Post editors

About two dozen people came out Tuesday for the auction of the Bethesda Theatre. Many were journalists, some were community members. None were bidders.

The theater failed to gain any external bids.

The Wisconsin Avenue landmark was put up for auction after its owners defaulted on their mortgage.

Yet, every time there is a surplus piece of property anywhere be it old school, factory, hospital, department store; there will be someone arguing that we need to convert it into arts and performance space. Where are those people now? See it's not so easy to make it work.
