Norad training exercise might be noisy

People in the Washington region may be jarred from their sleep by planes buzzing overhead and rattling walls overnight because of a military training exercise.

The North American Aerospace Defense Comend, or NORAD, will be conducting a training mission over Washington, with exercises involving multiple training flights between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

If bad weather enters the region, the defense command said that it would postpone the training until Thursday night. But the weather is expected to clear and rain-free.

The exercise, called Falcon Virgo, is intended to hone NORAD's intercept and identification operations. The tests will involve Civil Air Patrol aircraft and Coast Guard helicopters.
