Obama, daughter tour Md. State House

By Washington Post editors

Reporters with offices in the Maryland State House Tuesday were escorted from the building and tourists turned away so that First Lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha can tour the historic Annapolis building in private.

Police also cleared 50 bystanders from a public square and then moved them even further away -- to a roadway median more than 600 yards from the State House -- in anticipation of the Obamas exit to their motorcade.

Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) rushed back to the state capital just before noon following morning campaign events in the Washington suburbs of Bethesda and Silver Spring. Aides said they had little notice before the impromptu visit.

At least the Annapolis trip was a heck of a lot cheaper than the Spanish extravaganza with a virtual army of some 70 Secret Service.

And while they're in Annapolis, they should go a few blocks away and visit the beautiful US Naval Academy.

DISGUSTING.

hope she paid for this with her money, like her trip to Spain!!!

I can't believe that Mrs Obama (or her staff) didn't give Maryland Gov. O'Malley much advanced notice that she would be visiting. That arrogance typical of our so-called First Lady. After her Spanish vacation with a visit to the King and Queen, a lousy governor is far below her station.

Yes, this is a little more than inconsiderate. The Obama's are showing they really don't care...Sad indeed.

You people are really trying to compare a trip to Annapolis, MD to a trip to Spain?? I guess I shouldn't be surprised...there is absolutely nothing that this family can do (aside from disappearing from the face of the earth, and that ain't happening)that would please any of you. So sad that so many people hate to see a happy, successful AA family!

I'm glad Michelle was there, although I suspect that Barrack would have preferred she stay out of the country longer.

Just sayin'.

Posted by: Skeptic1 | August 10, 2010 2:24 PM | Report abuse

how much notice did they need? Perhaps enough time to make it look like they're actually doing some work!! The First Family can't seem to do anything to please some people (aside from disappearing from the face of the earth, and that ain't happening) - it's so sad that so many people hate seeing a successful A-A family....

Did someone tell Michelle that Governor O'Malley was a Hillary Clinton supporter?

Posted by: Digitalman08 | August 10, 2010 2:44 PM | Report abuse

This story was horribly written to make it seem like there was no purpose to the visit other than to inconvenience tourists, as if any one ever got near George Bush or Laura Bush. I don't recall Laura Bush toodling around town unescorted by heavey security. No matter what the Obama's do, these ignorant racist Obama haters have something negative to say. "She should vacation in the U.S., not Spain!" "Why is she going to Annapolis?" Give me a break, you idiots!

getaclue3, why must you bring race into the discussion? Personally, I know the job of the President and First Lady (Family) is a really tough one and though it appears that the First Family (now and past) do take 'vacations' they are not like a normal folks vacations. They still work everyday. But they knew that when they ran for office. The same goes for issues that are thrown at the previous administrations feet. They all know of the issues going into the office. That was part of the campaign promises, to fix said issues, not keep blaming the previous administrations. All Presidents do it, they are, after all, still politicians. And none can please everyone. I wouldn't want the job, but they took it so they get all that it comes with.

Less than two years left. Say Obama whatever happened to that $250 million in campaign money? After November it is all down hill.

Hey folks, what do expect? These people deserve reparations.

Posted by: Kansasgirl | August 10, 2010 3:05 PM | Report abuse

People just find anything to complain about. I guess Michelle should just lock herself in the White House basement just to make all of the haters happy.

It's good to be the Queen, Czarina more appropriately.

The State House cleared out on short notice for an "impromptu" visit, so the low rent Obama freeloaders can enjoy a private tour, with the unwashed peasants (including the usually reliable a** kissing, sycophantic press corps) kept a respectful 600 yards away! (The "security" aspect, don't you know).

However, with such a "cordon sanitair", it looks like the always in your eye Obamas might be getting a tad nervous about their subjects' disapproving reaction to their by now painfully obvious don't give a damn attitude.

In typical fashion, these Marxist hypocrits are living high off the hog on your money, time, and inconvenience, and despising you in the bargain. Classless, tasteless, abusive.

For Shame Obamas! It can't be soon enough that you are gone from the White House.

WOW, WHAT IGNORANT RESPONSES!!!! Some of you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves for what you've posted here. Where are your manners? Were you raised in a cave? The First Lady and her daughters are welcome, anytime to Maryland or anyplace else in the area! Good for them, its summer vacation for the kids - get out of the house and take in some history in nearby Annapolis.

brucehodge9,

you are such a special person, i have bag of s_h_i_t ready to be shoved down your throat.
Hope you enjoy.

This is really bizarre behavior.

I understand that they must keep the dirty common folk away from the Queen, but to drive out the Press? As in The First Amendment? The Fourth Estate? The Guardian of all Liberty?

This post must be a lie.

"get out of the house and take in some history in nearby Annapolis."

This is timely advice, since the Obamas have passed through and are unlikely to return, your visit will include fewer jackbooted thugs waiting to pen you up.

Sizing up the Maryland State House as the Summer Palace, I'm guessing.

Hemisphere:

It didn't take much time for the low-rent, foul mouthed, Obama sycophants and crass haters to slither out from under their rock, did it?

The Obamas are the real "prols": poorly/narrowly educated, affirmative action, drones, "pushed" along by Marxist (USA hating) agitators, who found the perfect, symbolic, manque in a man with a falsely created narrative (enabled by a largely know nothing, sympathetically complicit and incurious MSM).

The game is now up. More and more people are waking up to the massive con-game and scam that is Barack Obama, and his even more lightly talented wife, Michelle. Worse is to follow.....

What a step down...she actually has to visit places in America..

Posted by: ezwriter | August 10, 2010 7:23 PM | Report abuse

Michelle Obama is really starting to get on my nerves with this "regal" crap. That is unfair that everyone had to leave the State House because she decided to pop up with little notice. Seems like she isn't too concerned lately with the impression she is giving people.

The Obamas seem to attract a crowd of idiots to the comment sections. You people need to get a life. If you could get cash for ignorance these comments would pay off the deficit.

These people have no business being in the WH.

I don't think its fair to equate the trip to Spain, with a quick visit to Annapolis. It may well have been a mistake for the First Lady to travel to Spain while the US is dealing with difficult economic times, but Annapolis? I also don't think the First Lady needed to coordinate her visit with the Governor. He probably just wanted a photo op. As for the other visitors to the State House; its a shame that security requires this level of care.

I am so proud of both the President and Mrs. Obama. They are shining examples of what this great country is about. If you work hard, in spite of all the hate of lesser minds, you can obtain your goals. They are magnificent parents. I know that their daughters will follow in their great footsteps to become great citizens of this country and contribute their minds to the betterment of our society. Oh, as for Mrs. Obama's trips to Spain and Annapolis, she is a free and full American citizen who has a right to go wherever she pleases. While haters foam and spit evil comments, the world still turns, leaving the haters further behind. brucehodge9, what's with your mean spirit? Go figure!!

Annebutler,
Please give us an example of 'hard work' that you think either of these folks have done.
Then an example of their being 'magnificent parents.
If it is a rehash of photo ops and sound bytes, that is not an example, that is publicity.
How have their minds contributed to anything they didn't get paid for ? Either in votes, patronage jobs, or campaign contributions ?
I am not impressed by their Ivy League credentials those really weren't earned the hard way, either.
While you're researching this, Google how much money Paul Newman, and Johnny Carson, among others, left to charity.
They and many others, are the people most folks admire, not just because they worked for their money, but because they cared about their fellow man, and recognized how blessed their lives had been.
The Obama's have a knack for getting the most out of life,or in slang, milking it for all it's worth. I'll grant you that.
