Pregnant woman attacked in her home

By Eric Athas

A pregnant woman was attacked and seriously wounded in her home in upper Montgomery County on Friday, and another woman was arrested and charged in the attack, county police said.

They said the attack occurred about 4:20 p.m. in a house on Sugar Cane Lane, shortly after the victim arrived there. Police indicated that the victim may have known the attacker, but gave no details. No motive was given for the attack.

The victim, who is almost nine months pregnant, was not identified. Police said she got help from a neighbor who called authorities. Police said the victim was released from a hospital after treatment.

Police said Christine Devaux, 38, of the 3800 block of Melinda Court in Monrovia was arrested and charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of possession of a weapon with intent to injure, one count of second-degree assault, and one count of false imprisonment.

She is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Center, police said. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 7 in Rockville District Court.

this story should send chills down the spine of every pregnant woman. several times a year, we hear a story just like this one, usually with far less happy outcomes.

it's sad to think about it, but any woman within 4 weeks of delivery is a prime target for a knife-wielding, sicko mommy-wannabe.

these criminally obsessed women fly under the radar but, after the fact, there's almost always a family member or neighbor who gives a statement to the police and the media, something to the effect that "she kept telling us she was having a baby, but she didn't look pregnant."

First thought was 'baby mama drama', probably over some dude that ain't worth a dam. Even more distressing is the disregard for the yet born child.

If this is in fact over the same dude, these women and those like them should join forces to tax the cheating dude instead of battling each other.

Well, at least it was "in her own home."

All the comments to this post are ignorant except for "skinfreak'" comment. The huge assumptions warp the story into the realm of a different world. The attack on the pregnant woman was by a woman that was/is dating the pregnant woman's father-in-law. The attacker was paranoid and delusional that her "boyfriend" was being stolen away due to the soon-to-be-born child. With this information, not all of it mind you, you should be able to leap to even greater assumptions and continue to make an even greater ass of yourselves.
