Road worker killed in Forestville accident
A road worker was killed in a construction zone accident near the Beltway in Forestville early Thursday, authorities said.
William Davis, 27, of Bryantown, Md., died after he was crushed between two dump trucks on northbound Pennsylvania Avenue/Route 4 about 12:30 a.m., Maryland State Police said.
Davis was standing on the step to the driver side seat of a dump truck parked in the first lane trying to retrieve an item from the cab, authorities said. Another dump truck then backed into the vehicle, wedging him behind the door.
Davis was transported to a shock trauma center in Prince George’s County where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the accident.
Davis was working as a subcontractor for the state on a paving project.
Authorities closed northbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue overnight while investigating the scene. All lanes had reopened by the start of the morning rush.
