2nd Baltimore nursing home evacuated

Residents have been evacuated from another nursing home in Baltimore because of faulty air conditioning.

Nancy Grimm, director of Maryland's Office of Health Care Quality, says the state was notified Wednesday about cooling problems at the Liberty Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center in northwest Baltimore.

Grimm says the facility does not have central air conditioning, and some of its units weren't working. She says the temperature inside reached 94 degrees.

She says the nursing home staff moved the center's 74 residents to other homes owned by the same company.

Grimm says there was not a long delay in reporting the air conditioning problems as there was at a nursing home downtown where a resident called 911 to report the issue. One hundred-fifty residents were evacuated from that facility.
