Sheriff to run for Pr. Geo. county exec
Prince George’s County Sheriff Michael A. Jackson (D) officially kicked off his campaign for county executive Wednesday, joining a crowded field that includes county council members and former and current state delegates all vying to replace term limited executive Jack B. Johnson (D).
The kickoff was held at Crossland High School, Jackson’s alma mater, and in a statement beforehand, Jackson said, “Prince George’s County is on the road to excellence but I’m running for County Executive to make the journey a reality.”
His campaign kickoff comes days after the Post reported that one of his deputies was arrested by county police on suspicion of drunk driving after he failed a field sobriety test. Prince George's county police are investigating why the deputy was released to the sheriff's internals affairs investigators without being charged.
