Teen to be tried as minor in beating of man
A white teenager charged in the unprovoked beating of an elderly black fisherman will have his case heard in juvenile court.
A Baltimore judge ruled Friday that 16-year-old Emmanuel Miller should be tried as a juvenile after Miller's attorneys argued that their client did not participate in the beating of James Privott.
Miller was one of three people charged in the attack. Baltimore Circuit Judge David Young declined to move the trial of another teenager, 18-year-old Zachary Watson, to juvenile court. Watson was 17 at the time of the beating.
Twenty-eight-year-old Calvin Lockner, a white supremacist with a tattoo of Adolf Hitler, has also been charged. Privott testified Friday that he still suffers pain from the August attack.
